Burnham & Gorokhov, PLLC, is seeking an associate to assist the firm’s partners in all aspects of their cases, to include:
- Researching and analyzing legal issues, and working with partners to develop case strategy
- Drafting substantive motions, briefs, and sentencing memoranda
- Drafting appellate briefs
- Assisting with discovery review
- Assisting in responding to subpoenas and other aspects of investigations
- Assisting in preparation for court hearings and trials, and in court
This is an excellent position for a junior attorney with a strong interest in federal criminal defense. This position offers a great opportunity to learn by working directly with two experienced attorneys representing clients in an interesting mix of cases, ranging from street crimes to complex white collar matters. This position also offers an opportunity to interact directly with clients, and to see the impact of your work on their lives.
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- Strong legal writing, research and analytical skills
- Strong academic performance (particular emphasis will be placed on prior coursework in criminal law, evidence, criminal procedure, and legal writing)
- Ability to think outside the box, and work through challenging legal issues
- Law journal experience preferred
- Ability to work well with others, but also enjoy working independently
- Strong interest in federal criminal defense
- Experience with white collar criminal defense or civil litigation at a large firm is a plus.
